Your overall health is affected by the health of your teeth, gums and your mouth in general. The mouth has many uses that including being able to taste, talk and chew. We use it everyday and we should make sure we take the proper precautions to make sure it stays in good health.

Your Dental Health can determine the foods you can eat.

Dental Cleanings
At La Jolla Dental we are huge proponents of anything that will help our patient’s oral health. A solid at-home oral health routine is a big cornerstone of healthy teeth and gums. Coming in to our office for bi-annual cleanings and exams makes up the other cornerstone of oral health. When you come to see us we will make sure everything is as it should be and will allow us to give your mouth a nice, deep clean!

Gum Disease
Periodontics is a dentistry specialty that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of the tissues supporting and surrounding the teeth. Specifically, periodontists work with people who have been diagnosed with periodontal disease, which is an extremely common disease of the gums that affects about 80% of Americans in some manner. Whether your periodontal disease is stopped, gets worse, or slows its progression will depend on how well you care for your gums and teeth daily.

Oral Cancer Screening
Screening for oral cancer is one of the most important aspects of our job here at La Jolla Dental. Estimates say that 40-50,000 people could face a diagnosis of mouth or throat cancer this year, and we want to do whatever we can to help avoid any of our patients from facing that diagnosis. However, if our patients are going to face that diagnosis, we want to make sure they are diagnosed as early as possible to ensure the best chances of survival.

Sealants
Sealants are generally used to help prevent tooth decay on the biting surfaces of back teeth (molars). The natural grooves of these teeth can trap food that can resist casual brushing and rinsing. If left in place, the trapped food allows bacteria to multiply, eventually causing tooth decay and requiring costly attention.
